Every Californian has the right to live in a clean, safe community. As District Attorney, Kamala Harris has worked to ensure this; she has:
- Held more Quality of Life offenders accountable, bringing 80% more misdemeanor cases to trial.
- Closed legal loopholes that were allowing drug dealers to escape prosecution.
- Assigned a specialized prosecutor to handle all graffiti related offenses and standardized sentencing policy requiring stiffer penalties for graffiti offenders.
- Expanded the Community Court Program, opening three new Community Courts in the Sunset, North Beach and Richmond neighborhoods.
- Formed a Psych Unit to keep mentally ill offenders off the streets and in treatment.
- Launched new outreach programs to connect the community with the office, holding neighborhood Legal Fairs throughout the City.
- Assigned community DA liaisons' to work closely with each neighborhood.
